[Correspondence] Power, dose, and fosfomycin in the SCOUT trial – Authors' reply
Abstract
We thank Shankar Biswas and colleagues for their interest in the SCOUT trial.1 Although the study was underpowered, as discussed in the Article, the direction and magnitude of the observed effects warrant consideration. Among women with a positive baseline urine culture, a 5-day course of nitrofurantoin achieved higher clinical resolution rates than either fosfomycin regimen. Among positive cultures, clinical resolution rates with nitrofurantoin were 34·9 percentage points (95% CI 22·9–46·8) higher than with single-dose fosfomycin and 22·7 percentage points (10·3–35·1) higher than with two-dose fosfomycin (table 2 and supplementary table 19 of the original Article).
