Abstract

We thank Michele Bibas, Pedro C Hallal and colleagues, and Akhona V Mazingisa and Charles S Wiysonge for their engagement with the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2023.1 Their Correspondences highlight the importance of distinguishing between causes of health loss, quantified risk factors, and broader structural determinants within GBD.
