[Comment] Combination therapy in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis
Abstract
Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease and its progressive form, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, are multisystem disorders in which metabolic, inflammatory, and fibrogenic pathways converge to cause liver injury. Therapy previously focused on lifestyle alterations and risk factor management. However, substantial research efforts have culminated in the approval of resmetirom, a thyroid hormone receptor-β agonist,1 and semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, for treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
