[Correspondence] Beyond the metaphor: what One Health must become

Abstract

France's decision to anchor its 2026 G7 presidency around One Health signals a high point for this approach.1 Although the political energy is real, so is the risk of squandering it. Despite years of discussion, One Health is better at describing a vision than specifying what must change and for whom. The 2022 One Health High-Level Expert Panel definition speaks of balancing the health of people, animals, and ecosystems as parallel goods.2 The Berlin Principles affirm the intrinsic value of wildlife and ecosystem health independent of human utility.
