[Correspondence] Time to apply Arctic dogs to polar One Health surveillance
Abstract
The Arctic is undergoing rapid transformation driven by global warming, long-range transport of toxic industrial chemicals, emerging diseases, and biodiversity change, with cascading consequences for ecosystems and human health worldwide.1 Addressing these interconnected challenges requires integrated polar One Health surveillance.2 Arctic dogs are uniquely positioned for this role because they share ecological niches, environmental microbiomes, and marine-based dietary exposures with Indigenous communities across the circumpolar north.
